The Directorate General of Shipping in India is responsible for the enforcement of shipping legislation and policies to ensure the safety of lives and vessels at sea. It plays a crucial role in promoting maritime education, preventing marine pollution, and coordinating with the International Maritime Organization. The Directorate also oversees the regulation of employment practices and the welfare of seamen, including the development of coastal shipping and the augmentation of shipping tonnage.

Within the framework of the Merchant Shipping Act 1958 and the corresponding rules, the Directorate General of Shipping appoints specific medical examiners who are authorized to conduct medical examinations for Indian seafarers serving on Indian-flagged ships. These medical examiners undergo a thorough approval process in accordance with the prescribed procedures, relevant rules, and periodic notices issued by the Directorate. We, at Robin Hospitals, take pride in being recognised as one of best hospitals in doing Shipping Medical services.
